YOU ARE HERE: JOIN BSTZ > NEW ASSOCIATES > FAQS

What relocation expenses does the firm pay?
If currently living at least 60 miles from our office, we will pay "reasonable" expenses such as moving company expenses, car shipping or mileage, air fare or other transportation costs, and storage. An associate may also choose temporary corporate housing or costs connected with an apartment-hunting trip.

When do New Associates start?
In general the usual start date is sometime after graduating from Law School and taking the State Bar. For example, if one graduates, then takes the State Bar in July, the usual start date would most likely be August or September. If one graduates in December, then March is the usual start date. These are guidelines, and we really work to accommodate the perfect start date of each individual New Associate based on their preference.

What Bar expenses are paid by the firm?
We pay for both State and Patent Bar review courses, exam cost, and Bar dues.

What types of training will I receive when I arrive at BSTZ?
We offer our new associates continuous training in the areas that support our practice. We cover topics such as: Duty of Disclosure, Software Patents: USC, Content of Patent Applications, Foreign Filing & Prosecution, Trademarks, 35 U.S.C. 102/103, Appeal Practice, Opinion Letters, Allowance Issuance, Reissue/Patent Correction, Claims Drafting, and Continuation Practice Reexamination Practice. In addition, our attorneys attend many training sessions offered by external authorities as we strive to maintain the highest degree of proficiency and knowledge necessary to properly advise our clients.
