Litigation

BSTZ has played a successful and active role in enforcing and defending our clients’ intellectual property rights since the firm was founded in 1975.  BSTZ’s diverse litigation subject matter ranges from Apple’s windowing and Sony’s video editing equipment to tissue engineering and the water ejection devices used at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.  We are staffed with veteran litigators experienced in prosecuting and defending cases involving a wide variety of intellectual property issues, including:

  • patent infringement
  • trademark infringement
  • trademark dilution
  • diverted goods
  • trade secrets
  • copyright infringement
  • trade libel
  • unfair competition

BSTZ is one of the few remaining intellectual property boutiques in the country.  We have more than 70 attorneys who hold degrees in engineering and/or science-related fields, and most have real world, hands-on technical experience. Accordingly, we are uniquely situated to understand, protect and enforce all varieties of intellectual property rights.

Preventive Law

In view of the high cost of litigation, we believe in counseling our clients in preventive law. Accordingly, our attorneys carefully review all types of transactions in an effort to minimize our clients’ exposure to expensive litigation. However, if litigation ensues, the firm will zealously protect and enforce its clients’ interests through trial or until a favorable resolution is reached.

International Experience

We have expertise in counseling our clients on protecting their intellectual property rights internationally, including in Canada, Mexico, Asia and the European Community. Through our broad network of foreign associates, BSTZ has initiated litigation in numerous foreign countries, including Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Korea. We have assisted with litigation in European countries, including Germany and France. Our attorneys also frequently interact with U.S. Customs in an attempt to ensure that knock-off products featuring marks similar to our clients’ trademarks or covered by our clients' copyrights or patents are appropriately addressed.
